Since our formation, we have recognised the role we have to play in supporting our local communities. So we actively maintain a diverse programme of event sponsorship, fundraising initiatives, donations and volunteering.
Each Divisional site has its own charity partnership chosen by staff. The partnerships run for a two-year period and are supported by events from coffee mornings and challenges to Bake-Offs and raffles.
At Group level, we have, since 1984 been proud supporters of Grocery Aid, the industry charity that supports people who work or have worked in the grocery, provisions and off-license sectors. The charity has helped over 20,000 colleagues over the past year and that number continues to grow.
In 2023 we were honoured to receive a GroceryAid Gold Award in recognition of our support for our industry’s charity for the 14th year running.
Community volunteering has always been part of SHS, something we actively encourage across the Group. We provide time and resources to aid employee involvement, and we have supported initiatives in Northern Ireland, GB and ROI including Time to Read, gardening and painting projects, as well as career and business talks with local schools and universities. We also support the BITC annual Give and Gain day, with each of our sites taking up a community challenge.
We regularly support local community events through product donations, sponsorships and charity raffle prizes. In order to make the greatest local impact we focus support on community, charity or educational events in line with our responsible business programmes.
Product donations include our soft drinks brands, condiments & sauces and grocery brands. If you think your event meets our criteria, please click below to register your request stating the event details, date, product and quantity required.
