Job Description

Working as part of a team, the Production Operative reports to the Line Supervisor. They are tasked with working in the production area and packing lines safely and productively, ensuring that all products produced are safe, legal, and meet the company’s specifications.

Key Responsibilities/Duties

  • Maintain a Health & Safety culture within Meridian to deliver the best practices in site safety, while proactively contributing to all area/department health & safety and food safety initiatives.
  • Ensure site security procedures are adhered to.
  • Ensure that food safety, quality, and the environment are not compromised.
  • Work with the Line Supervisor to identify and eliminate health and safety risks to all staff.
  • Meet daily production plans/targets and accurately report on issues and successes.
  • Ensure all products are produced to customer specifications, within company HACCP and BRC systems.
  • Safe operation of all equipment and machinery.
  • Follow SOPs and comply with the requirements to deliver GMP, to ensure there are no quality deficiencies.
  • Cleaning of equipment and workspace as required, following the clean-as-you-go principle.
  • Ensure correct methods are employed in stripping, cleaning, and assembling equipment following respective SOPs.
  • All hygiene duties across the site.
  • Ensuring the cleaning of the production facility and processing equipment is completed to the highest standard as defined by the company.
  • Carry out product changeover activities as required.
  • Completion of relevant documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Adherence to stock control systems.
  • To ensure that all materials are available for each production run before the run commences.
  • Work with the Line Supervisor in the reduction of the number of quality customer complaints.
  • Escalate any potential issues that pose a risk to food safety or product quality to the Line Supervisor.
  • Contribute to delivering the requirements of health & safety, quality, people, and delivery and cost.
  • Work with the Line Supervisor to proactively raise/resolve issues that arise.
  • Work with the Line Supervisor in reducing waste in your department/area.
  • Proactively work with the Line Supervisor in the elimination of unplanned lost time events.
  • As and when required, play a proactive role in continuous improvement initiatives within your department/area.
  • Deliver the site KPIs.
  • Deliver agreed objectives on time.
  • Additional duties as and when required that are relevant to the department and/or the site.

Experiences/Qualifications

Key Skills

  • Previous experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to operate within a process-driven environment.
  • Good understanding of, and a commitment to SOP's.
  • Food hygiene awareness.
  • Manual handling.
