SHS Group ‘Bake Off’ Raises ‘Dough’ for Marie Curie

The SHS Group recently held a ‘Bake Off’ to raise funds for the company’s staff nominated charity, Marie Curie.

Discussing the event and ongoing efforts to support the SHS Group’s nominated charity Arthur Richmond, Group Finance Director said:

“Every two years, staff are encouraged to nominate a charity and make a commitment to raise funds to assist with the cause. In May 2012, SHS Group staff nominated Marie Curie as the charity of choice. Over the course of the last two years, through a wide variety of events ranging from dress down days, to sponsored challenges such as the ‘Walk Ten’, ‘Slieve to Slieve’ and participation in marathons, staff have shown their continued commitment to raising money to support Marie Curie.

"We held a Bake Off on 17th April 2014 and asked staff to test their culinary skills and put forward a creation in the cake, traybake, bun or dessert categories. Over 20 people entered the Bake Off and guest local celebrity, Jenny Bristow was invited to help with the judging.

“I’m glad to say that Jenny was very impressed with the standard of baking, but more importantly the event helped bring the total amount of money raised for Marie Curie in the last two years to over £11,000. This was a significant milestone for all staff. The fact that donations have helped to ensure Marie Curie can offer 550 additional hours nursing care over the last two years is really encouraging.”

Welcoming the ongoing efforts of staff at the SHS Group, Anne Hannon, Corporate Development Manager, Marie Curie says:

“Marie Curie is extremely grateful for the ongoing support of staff at the SHS Group. The dedication and commitment of volunteers and fundraisers is crucial for Marie Curie. It allows us to deliver services that support individuals and families that have been directly affected by a terminal illness, at a time when they need assistance from experienced, qualified nurses.

“This support can make a significant difference in terms of helping people to cope with a situation that is often very challenging, both emotionally and physically. I would like to thank all the staff at the SHS Group. Their fundraising really has made a difference.”
